Lady Gretton officially opens Diseworth Heritage Centre
Diseworth Heritage Centre was officially opened yesterday by the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Lady Gretton.
The opening is the culmination of several years hard work by volunteers at Diseworth Heritage Trust who were successful in receiving Heritage Lottery funding to acquire and renovate the building, a former Baptist Chapel that has stood empty since being flooded in 2000.
The building includes a flexible exhibition space and hall, which can also be used for events as well as a meetings room and coffee bar and a well equipped IT suite.
A packed room of guests looked on as Lady Gretton unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.
The Centre represents a successful project with a range of funding and support from various bodies including HLF, East Midlands Airport and various others.
It is hoped that as a multi-function space the centre will be well used by visitors and residents as well as local businesses and organisations looking for an unusual, yet well equipped, meeting space. In her speech, East Midlands Airport Managing Director Penny Coates indicated that she would be happy to put business their way!
We congratulate all of the volunteers involved at Diseworth Heritage Trust, wish them every success with their venture & look forward to our meeting their next Thursday!
